Are these Boston Acoustic book shelf speakers any good?

Question by : Are these Boston Acoustic book shelf speakers any good?
I was looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Acoustics-CS26B-Bookshelf-Each-Black/dp/B001GCN3PU/ref=pd_sim_e_4

Now, i found this exact pair of speakers for about $ 55 brand new from a reputable retailer. I like the price, but are these any good? I’m planning on using these as the front satellites along with a sub and i will most likely add more channels in the future.

Which is best? ONKYO, DENON, OR YAMAHA for $400 budget?

Question by jagouar11103: Which is best? ONKYO, DENON, OR YAMAHA for 0 budget?
I need a new sound system and i am thinking of spending a maximum of $ 600-700 for both receiver speakers.

i have spent some time researching and narrowed it down to 3 brands denon, yamaha and onkyo for receivers

and for speaker sets i am thinking JBL , boston acoustics or the Onkyo SKS-HT240 which received good reviews

i have no idea which system is better for my price range. i dont care for THX or HDMI unless it has faroudja technology for upscaling. i have an OPPO dvd player (non faroudja) and a 40 inch lcd hdtv.

so which receiver brand (and model) and speaker combo is the best for $ 600-$ 700

Best answer:

Answer by herbg
How about this Mirage & Denon combo. I’ve dealt with this dealer for man years and they have always been great.

I’m a fan of Denon receivers. I also like the Panasonic Digital Receivers…like the SA-XR57K and SA-XR55S.

Can car speakers reduce in quality over time?

Question by TBS: Can car speakers reduce in quality over time?
I have Boston Acoustic Pro Rally series speakers in my car, front and back. I have had them for 5-6 years and they have taken lots of loud music, rap and rock, over the years. I have had an amp hooked up to them the whole time also. I am getting a new car and am wondering if I should splurge and buy new speakers or just transfer them from my old car to my new car. They still sound very very good to me but that could be because I am so use to them. Does anyone know if speakers reduce quality over time?? do amps?

Best answer:

Answer by paudman
Yes. Better quality ones take longer but eventually the cones will all stretch.

How do I hook up my four car speakers to my head unit (25w x 4) while also hooking up a new sub and amp?

Question by bottomfeeder808: How do I hook up my four car speakers to my head unit (25w x 4) while also hooking up a new sub and amp?
I currently have four 6.5 in.Boston Acoustic coax installed in the doors that are powered by a 250w Reference 2ch.amp. I want to hook up a subwoofer to the existing amp and power the four door speakers from my head unit. Is this possible? and if so, how do I go about it. I’m also running the signal through a passive EQ. Thank you for your consideration.

Best answer:

Answer by Nobody_Here
Simply run the speaker wires (which are currently connected to your amp) to your head unit(Radio) directly. Then connect the subwoofer to the amp. Should be able to bridge the amp which would give you more power to your sub as well.

Is there anyway to interface a non-IPOD MP3 player to a multipurpose IPOD cd/radio/clock docking station?

Question by mrwilder2332: Is there anyway to interface a non-IPOD MP3 player to a multipurpose IPOD cd/radio/clock docking station?

Best answer:

Answer by Dave W
Yes there is but it depends on your player. If you have the usb cable that it comes with and the docking station has a usb input than just plug it in and it should be recognized. It will also charge it if that is how your player charges. Hope this helps.

What amp would be the best pick?

Question by chris20crsoccer: What amp would be the best pick?
I just bought two pairs of polk momo 5.25″ components for my front doors and rear deck and was wondering out of these three subs which would be the best to go with? I do not plan on putting in a sub (not really a bass person). I would think the JL, but that Boston is a good deal. The polk would match the speakers, but might be to powerful!
Thanks

There is music playing in this room, what should I do?

Question by mo-glove: There is music playing in this room, what should I do?
There is music playing in this room. The music is a track named ‘Music Sounds Better with You’, by the band ‘Stardust’. The music is coming from a twenty year old Toshiba sound system linked up with a ten year old CD player, which is in turn all linked up to two twenty year old (but still very good) speakers.
One speaker, the left one, is sitting on a wardrobe just to the left of the Toshiba sound system, the CD player, and the other speaker. The Toshiba sound system is sitting in the centre of a large cabinet/cupboard storage device which is otherwise filled with strange and forgotten books about everything from DIY to the way that spirits enter the netherworld, and several old cameras. Just to the right of the cabinet/cupboard is the right speaker, which is lying on its side in order to hold up a small 10″ LCD television, which is linked up to a cheap and cheerful Freeview set top box. Continuing to the right, there is a table which is laiden with plants and such. There isn’t anything to the right of that except for a wall, which is mainly covered with a large window. The top slit of the window is open, and a gentle warm breeze is sifting through it. After the wall with the window, another wall begins, parralel to the wall with the Toshiba on it. There’s a Futon/Sofa arrangement here, in Futon bed form, an old radio that can pick up all wavelengths, and then a large cupboard filled with trousers, vests, boots, socks, Hawaiian shirts, and boxer pants. Then there’s a door, another cupboard, and a fish tank on top of the cupboard that is also holding the left speaker. Filling most of the centre of the room is the Futon bed. The music is still playing. What should I do?

Well, you followed directions before successfully.

Check the GMT on the British clock and then get up to either let the Basset out or take it for a short walk.

Then go to the used CD/LP shop and pick up a “Dr John the Night Tripper” album. My favorite is Gris gris:

Return to your hovel and listen to the tunes with the dog.

I have the 12 inch version of the G3 and would like to know if anyone has tried different sealed box sizes other than what the manual says. It says 1 cubic ft. I just want to make sure I can get the best possible range. Box size is everything for subwoofers.

Why is my Component speakers clipping?

Question by Henry: Why is my Component speakers clipping?
Boston Acoustics sx60-65RMS
Alpine 450w mrp-70RMS
HP:75-80, gain:5/8

So i was listening to a talk show.. and it seems like the SX60 component speaker starts to distort a lot.. or like its clipping on my right front woofer speaker only. However, for music it sounds perfectly fine at even louder volumes… I was listening to KROQ love line and it started to have a lot of distortion on just 1 front woofer… so i turned the volume down to 1 bar and it still had it… When i switched the station it sounded fine. When i played music up to 5 bars, it sounded fine…

Anyone have any idea why my component woofer would do this? Could my right front woofer be blown?? If its blown.. shouldnt i hear the distortion when playing music??

Answer by Jody
Talk shows tend to have a different eq-ing (tonal quality) than normal music stations. They are geared to peak more in the vocal range to keep the voices sounding like you’re right there with them. I’ve noticed it too. Just too much energy in the 200-500hz range.

Also, you must admit that blasting talk shows at high volumes really isn’t necessary as there isn’t any nuisances to pick up like in high fidelity music. I suggest keeping the volume turned down when you listen to them as you should be able to hear them just fine at medium to low volumes.

I noticed that you said your gain is set to 5/8… How much dial do you have before your system distorts. You may want to set it the head unit to it’s maximum output without any distortion when you listen to normal music (turn the gain down a bit). 70 rms watts is quite loud on high’s and you definitely don’t want to clip them as they won’t last long.

Hope this helps.
