HD Radio Undressed: The Naked Truth

HD Radio Undressed: The Naked Truth

What you need to know before tuning into HD Radio…more FM channels, double the stations, new technology, more content and crystal clear sound.

buyhdradio.com While most of us listen only to FM and even less to Am only in our cars, times have changed. While satelite radio is great, it is not local like HD Radio. In addition where there was one radio station, the same radio spectrum contains 2 or three stations and they are now digital and rival the sound of CD quality. Besides being local, it is free, at least for now. Manufacturers have seen the future and you have many options.

What tabletop/boombox type hybrid digital HD radios have the newest generation HD radio circuitry/chip ?… for example can you get the Sony HD radio with the newest HD radio circuitry/chip ?

Why would anybody waste money on yet another radio considering how far broadcast radio has deteriorated? Once WiMax and other wireless internet technology comes into play you can listen to scores of internet stations that beat the socks off of my local station, HD or not!

I bought a small portable HD radio player. It’s OK. I did find 3 HD channels that are worth listening to. Really the only reason I bought one is because they moved my favorite jazz station to HD2.

Pros: Some cool channels you wouldn’t hear with out an HD radio and it is free. Audio no worse or better than satellite radio.

Cons- HD radio reception needs to be improved. Also needs to become more popular.

Awesome Post! I miss my HD Radio deck I had in my old car. I bought the KIA Forte which doesn’t have one. I tell ya, if anyone has been able to put one in, let me know! My ears hurt listenting to the flat FM/AM.

I had HD radio and it sounded great. You can definitely hear a difference between HD and non-HD. I also enjoyed the extra HD-only channels.

HD radio sucks. It sounds tinny and watery and its not reliable when driving around, at most 5-10 mile range reliabilty.

    Dont waste your money.

    I prefer XM RADIO!

I live about 45 miles away from a major city. Our little town has one FM station. I’ve been waiting for HD radio only to find out that out here it won’t do me ANY good! I can gets lots of regular FM stations here. Why change that? I remember when most new ideas seemed like good ideas. What happened? And NO WAY do I want to move to a big city. Everybody is going nuts in big cities these days.

  12. teamlk says:

I like the sound of this better:
FREE Digital Cable/HD Radio vs. Dish Network/Sirius vs. DirecTV/XM.

  13. HenryBloggit says:

HD Radio is great. You get a sharper sound and almost twice as many stations as you had before, most of the new ones are commercial-free, and you don’t have to pay a monthly subscription fee. I can’t understand why anyone would have a problem with that.

If your complaint is, “digital radio is making my analog radio fuzzy,” ummm, maybe you should get a digital radio and shut up?

  14. mannhimself says:

HD radio sucks. Its sponsered by the NAB and this tv station got some under the table cash. Mostly the “news bit” was more like a sales pitch. I’ve tried HD radio and the stations always cut off about 40 miles from the city. It might be good if you live in an urban area but not in a rural area. Satellite radio is way better than HD radio. Coast to coast coverage of the same content and no static. I rather spend the $17/month for commercal free and uncensored music and all the NFL and NHL games.

As I understand it, the only countries that use HD radio are the US and Canada, but here in Australia we are about to start using the DAB+ system. The problem here is that if you travle a lot, your radio won’t work in other countries, this will annoy a lot of people. I wonder if we’ll see HD Radio/DAB+ Hibrid receivers.

  16. jonasvalero says:

HD Radio is not “HD” , is just used marketing to attract customers.

  17. intoodeep0606 says:

I want to hear an alternative 80s station, an Italo station (I’ll accept an Italo music block on certain hours in an HD2 dance station), latin dance, some good reggae (without the djs talking, though), Australian bands (for some reason, they make very good music historically) and a freeform talk station. Oh, and drop the FCC so-called decency standards (I know that’s unlikely but what the hey).

  18. LinoNewyork says:

Keep it up! Your posts are most illuminating!

BTW: I’am a “professional” stock investor these days, haven’t been a radio studio since I was a child…That would be 1966.

Kind of funny isn’t it..a male nurse debating radio with a stock trader.

    here’s laughing at ya!

  19. betojoven says:

This man is a professional radio programmer in NY believe it or not, now you know why terrestrial radio sucks, guys like this choose what you are going to hear and hopefully to him HOW you’re going to hear it.

  20. LinoNewyork says:

    Very funny beavis.

Anyone interested can put your various alias’ into a search engine and find what you are.

You want to heckle, get used to it in return.

  21. betojoven says:

Linonewyork works in NY radio on an HD station and is going off the deep end knowing that the end of HD is near and is a sick man who has been following me around and will follow you around also if you disagree with his peverted view of radio, watch out, he’s seriously troubled.

  22. LinoNewyork says:

Just to let you know Mr Young and betojoven are one and the same, he also goes by a ham call.

He has taken it upon himself to haunt every newsgroup, messageboard, blog, and now video solely to make snarky baseless comments about hd radio.

    Obsessed and pathetic.
